When specifying aluminium slat fencing for a project, include the following details to ensure you receive the correct product for your application.
Alloy
6005-T5 or 6061-T6 extruded aluminium are the standard grades for architectural fencing. Both offer high corrosion resistance and structural integrity.
Powder coat
Minimum 60 microns, recommended 75 microns for coastal use. Specify Interpon D2525 or equivalent for coastal warranty coverage. Colours must conform to AS/NZS 4506.
Slat dimensions
Common profiles are 75mm × 16mm, 100mm × 20mm, and 150mm × 25mm hollow-back extrusions. Wall thickness minimum 1.6mm, 2.0mm preferred.
Spacing
- Full privacy: 0–5mm gap
- Semi-privacy: 10–15mm gap
- Decorative: 20–40mm gap
Post system
Hot-dip galvanised steel or powder-coated aluminium posts. Minimum 65mm × 65mm SHS for residential runs up to 2400mm. Post embedment: 600mm minimum in concrete, or engineer-specified for exposed sites.
Fixings
Stainless steel (316-grade) in coastal environments. A4 stainless for marine zones.
Compliance
Fencing must comply with AS/NZS 1170 structural loading standards. Wind zone calculations should be completed for exposed or elevated sites.
