Scale and Significance: This substantial project highlighted Paul Nathan Fencing’s expertise and provided an exciting opportunity to collaborate at one of New Zealand’s premier developments. The Kmart Distribution Centre, the largest in the country, gained widespread recognition for its state-of-the-art robotics.

Automation Setup: Tailored to the needs of Kmart and Maersk, the installation elevated security and efficiency. Coordination with various integrated contractors was handled with precision. Syncing Bionik barrier arms with Grande gate operators to deliver a smooth, seamless transition through specific areas.

Teamwork: Edgesmith and Paul Nathan Fencing teamed up brilliantly to refine solutions, ensuring all components worked in harmony.

• 9 x Roger Technology Bionik-8 operators  
• 4 x Roger Technology Bionik-6 operators  
• 4 x Roger Technology Grande slide operators  
• 1 x Roger Technology Smarty 7 swing operator

Perimeter: The fencing met stringent MBIE Import requirements, featuring special-height Spear Top fencing, topped with barbed wire for enhanced security. Gates were custom-designed to fit unique openings—ranging from 8m to an impressive 22m—using bi-parting cantilevers to maximize accessibility and functionality.

Challenges: Despite a challenging wet winter, the dedicated crews completed the installation on time and under budget, showcasing their skill and adaptability.

Outcome: The project delivered a top-tier, automated solution that perfectly complemented the operational needs of the Kmart Distribution Centre and Maersk Cold Store. Initial fine-tuning of controls, weighbridges, and gates/barriers resulted in a polished, high-performing system, earning positive recognition for its reliability and innovation.
